Financial Times completes the acquisition of TNW
September 11, 2023 — AMSTERDAM — At the beginning of September, the Financial Times reached a significant milestone by achieving 100% ownership of TNW.
FT first invested as a majority shareholder in February 2019, as part of its strategy to grow its presence in the global tech ecosystem. Now a wholly owned subsidiary, TNW will integrate further into the FT Group, which promises exciting prospects for both companies, fostering greater synergy for TNW’s community and operational efficiencies for the business.
While TNW will keep its current structure and location in the heart of Amsterdam, its business unit leads (Events, Programs, Media and Spaces) will now report directly into the corresponding FT business unit leadership in order to further avail of central resources and expertise and lead TNW in its next phase of growth. As such, Myrthe Van der Erve, TNW CEO, will therefore be leaving the business at the end of the year.
James Lund, Financial Times CFO and Chair of the TNW Board, said “I want to take this moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to Myrthe for her leadership in guiding TNW over the last years. Although Myrthe will be stepping down as TNW's CEO, her involvement in the integration until December 31st will ensure a smooth transition and a solid foundation for the company’s future, as it continues to fulfill its joint mission of connecting the tech ecosystem”.

The Next Web (TNW) and nlmtd are excited to announce their partnership with the Royal Schiphol Group as the organisation's innovation partner and ecosystem orchestrator, to support the company’s transformation into a sustainable and future-proof organisation.
Amsterdam NL, 10th January 2023 - Schiphol has the ambition for their airports to be zero-emission and zero-waste by 2030 on route to becoming energy-positive and circular in the long run. As the Ecosystem Orchestrators, TNW Programs and nlmtd will bring external ideas and solutions to the table to help the Royal Schiphol Group address both short-term challenges and long-term strategic programs in key sustainability and innovation areas. The partnership aims to make the organization resilient and empower its position as the leader in the airport industry.

By collaborating with TNW Programs and nlmtd, the Royal Schiphol Group will benefit from diverse perspectives and expertise, enabling them to achieve their goals.
We need innovation to achieve our ambition: to become the world’s most sustainable airport. We anticipate that daily operations on Schiphol's apron will have changed significantly by 2050. Ground-based activities such as baggage transport, passenger transport and aircraft towing will not only be clean, but also smart and autonomous. We have already taken the first steps in this field with TNW and nlmtd. We will conduct a trial of self-driving buses on Schiphol's apron this spring. That way, we can determine what follow-up steps are needed in the future.
Jan Zekveld, head of innovation at Royal Schiphol GroupWe are thrilled to help Schiphol accelerate in their innovation journey. While many companies reduce their innovation efforts during difficult times, for Schiphol, innovation is the solution. We can’t wait to find solutions in the market that can make the baggage process more autonomous, and to work with external innovators to address the challenge of ultra-fine particles around the airport. Our goal is to help Schiphol become a more sustainable and future-proof organization, and we are confident that our partnership will help achieve this
Arno Nijhof, Director of TNW ProgramsThe Royal Schiphol Group’s idea to partner up with an Ecosystem Orchestrator in order to help accelerate the transition towards the most sustainable and high quality airports in the world marks their ambition and their belief that “Innovation is Better Together”. This is exactly how we believe Innovation can be accelerated. We will bring our Ecosystem Development and Innovation Capabilities to the table together with our good friends at TNW, to help accelerate the positive impact we can make
Pieter Paul van Oerle, founder of nlmtd partner Ecosystem OrchestrationThe Royal Schiphol Group's commitment to innovation and sustainability aligns with our joint mission to facilitate building an ecosystem of innovations. Marking the 15th in-person edition of the conference, TNW 2021 will welcome back attendees online and in-person on September 30th and October 1st. Patrick de Laive, CPO and Co-founder of TNW, had this to say:
“While we were successful in overcoming the challenges of 2020 by rolling out our online-only events, we still longed to return to the in-person setup. When talking about our flagship event, Boris said;
“Last year was difficult for a lot of people. We were lucky enough to host our events in an online format, but it is true that we’ve missed being able to meet you all face-to-face. Now that the world is starting to open up a little, we’re seizing this opportunity to welcome back businesses, industry leaders, and all tech lovers at our hybrid event. Whether you’re attending the conference in person or online, you can expect the same vibe and the same unmatched TNW energy that we’ve all been looking forward to during the past year.”
